Microprocessor Controlled Charging for 6 and 12 Volt Batteries

Microprocessor controlled charging and maintenance is simply the easiest way to keep batteries at optimal power levels. This convenience and speed is experienced from the moment that the SEM-1562A is connected. First, the unit utilizes the user's choice of either easy-to-connect and remove battery clips, or permanent ring terminals (both included), each of which allows for charging or maintaining of batteries whether they be in or out of vehicles. The SEM-1562A also features automatic voltage detection which allows it to automatically determine whether the connected cell is a 6-volt battery or a 12-volt variety. This eliminates the possibility of damaging a battery due to choosing the wrong charging settings. Once your battery type has been identifified, a multi-phase charging process kicks in which plays out via the unit's automatic Charge / Maintain modes. Tipped off by the data analyzed by the onboard microprocessor, your battery is supplied with a constant charge until it reaches a preset level - at which point charging ceases. Eventually, if the charge falls below a certain level the SEM-1562A automatically transitions into Maintain Mode, delivering a small, safe charge that will raise the battery's level back to where it should be.

In addition, because of the constant monitoring the battery, the SEM-1562A can react to charging needs swiftly, efficiently and accurately, allowing charging cycles to click on and off in the same way. Because of this, batteries can be left attached to the SEM-1562A indefinately for storage without the risk of overcharging and/or damage. Additional features include: automatic temperature compensation which adjusts the maximum charge voltage and maximum maintain voltage based on the ambient air temperature; thermal runaway, which automatically reduces the current if it detects the battery may be getting too hot; an auto-start feature that keeps power from flowing unless a proper connection exists, or in the case of a reverse hook-up; and a Desulphation mode for charging batteries left discharged for an extended period of time.

Maintenance Mode charging is a smart charging cycle that initially charges your battery at an efficiently high rate up to a preset level, at which point charging ceases. When the battery eventually drops below this level again, another less powerful charging cycle begins that is just strong enough to raise the battery's charge to the preset optimal level. AC and DC Power

The Schumacher PP-2200 is designed to serve all of your portable AC and DC power needs. The unit's front control panel holds two three-pronged AC outlets which are powered by its built-in 400-watt inverter and cooling fan. Together these allow for safe, effecient conversion of the DC oriented power of the 22Ah battery into AC power suitable for electrical devices that exhibit a power draw of 400-watts or less. In the event of a power draw in excess of 400-watts, the inverter is designed to automatically shut down. This safety feature prevents damaging the inverter while testing devices and equipment. The unit's front control panel also contains a convenient inverter on/off switch which allows users to keep devices plugged without causing an uneccessary drain on the internal battery. After plugging in, simply flip the switch on when you need AC and flip it off when you are finished. Access to DC power is even easier via the side-oriented DC cigarette lighter style outlet. Providing a full 12-volts/15-amp max, this power is always on, meaning that all you need to do is plug in your device via its DC power adapter (not included) and let the power flow.

Maintaining Your Charge From Anywhere

Maintaining the charge within the Schumacher PP-2200 is a breeze as well. After use, and when near to a standard wall outlet, simply connect the PP-2200 to it via the included AC wall charger. Once a full charge has been attained the unit will automatically go into maintain mode and maintain the battery at full charge without damaging it if you choose to leave the PP-2200 plugged in. You can even charge the internal battery of the PP-2200 while driving using the male-to-male charger cable (p/n: 38-99-001564 – sold separately). To do so insert one end of the accessory cable into the 12-volt DC power outlet and the other end into the vehicle's accessory outlet (lighter socket), ensuring that the DC charging accessory is unplugged when your vehicle's engine is not running to prevent car battery drainage.
